It’s been a while since I organized any group review/foodie gathering sessions and I must admit, I miss those days. Well, I haven’t been very active in the ‘scene’ lately due to my other business commitments and I do hope to make a comeback, anyway possible.

I still remember meeting fellow foodies such as A Whiff of Lemongrass, Masak-Masak, Kampungboycitygirl, Tankiasu, Teckiee, WMW …. among others. There were many others which if I list them down, would take many pages to complete. I enjoy the company of fellow foodies simply because we speak the same lingo.

I mean, what more could a foodie ask for? There food. There’s company. And then there’s more food. And that is why I’ve decided to organize group-makan sessions again. The most recent one was held at Tasty Pot Restaurant, in Sunway Mentari.

Did you know that Sunway Mentari is well-known for the abundance of steamboat restaurants? At the time of this post, there are at least 5 other steamboat restaurants that I know of within this area. Last I heard, there will be another 3 or more opening soon. Good for foodies like me, I thought. So much choices, so little stomach space! But when I posted this question to Wenny, restaurant owner of Tasty Pot .. here’s what she said.

“Our restaurant has several unique elements to encourage customer coming back for more i.e. a good variety of soup flavors such as Soya Bean Soup which is their specialty. There’s also Soya Bean Curry Soup which is the 1st in Malaysia, Porridge, Chinese Herbal, Thai Tomyam and also Chong Qing Spicy Soup. Besides soup variety, we are also the first to serve barbecue dishes such as seafood and also lamb. On weekdays, serve a whole lamb while on weekends, two. You can check out our lamb being barbecued at the side of our shop.”

I did check out the whole lamb being barbecued … let’s just say I prefer to eat than look. I mean, I took a photo of it … but I guess my photography skills on dead animals isn’t exactly good yet. I must say the food variety spread is awesome. Here are just some of the food choices for you to dig in.

The choice of food seems endless … with more than 100 different types to choose from. Gosh, I think we were spoil for choices. Food aside, it’s good to catch up with some fellow foodies. Some I’ve know for years … such as BigBoysOven while I’m glad to meet new ones like Simon Seow, Nomad Gourmand (who turns out to be an old friend too, never knew she blogs!!!) and FoodPoi.

I believe it was a good session as I already have foodies asking if they could come back again for 2nd session. Soon, I hope. You should check them out too …

My wife raves about this place wide variety of reasonably priced food. The variety of soups is attractive. Soy bean is a good base for soup and I am sure other ingredients are added for their special blend.

  11. Timothy Said,

Squids, prawns …… haha. I guess nothing beats the real thing !

  12. disgusted Said,

the most disgusting steamboat I have ever eat. The seafood is not fresh,

    for example

    1) stingray meat should be solid, but today is so soft and it smell funny.
    2) the prawn smell funny too
    3) Lala still have sand inside it, end up the whole pot is full of sand

Not many variety to choose from. The boss told us went we were seated down that they have 150 items to choose from but on the tables is less than 100, he also said got new zealand lamb, where got need to side order.

This shop is con man, why i tick on the menu chinese tea ice and it is written serve in pot but ended up they give me chinese tea ice serve in cup somemore charge us RM1 per cup.

I asked the boss but he tell us dont have wor… it is served in cup…. but i told him it is written serve in pot…. he just say sorry and walk away…

RM23.80 it is not worth it, the food quality is bad, not much choice to choose from, the service is bad, the soup base taste horrible.

I better pay a little bit more can eat shabu shabu buffet.

    Timothy Low Reply:

Dear disgusted, looks like there are some mix reactions here. Some of the readers find that Tasty Pot offer value for money but you think otherwise. Perhaps it’s a good idea to speak directly to the owner if you have another opportunity. Else, I guess some of the readers here who frequent the place might do so too. Anyway, everyone deserves their own opinion especially when it comes to taste. Thanks for your opinion though.

  13. email2me Said,

It seems that you copy and paste the same comment and left an anonymous email. This is not the right way to critic people’s food. People may think you are a competitor trying to tarnish ones name. If you put real and legit email address, I don’t mind to post your comment out.

  16. Ryan Said,

This place is the one-stop location for BAD, borderline rotten seafood! The place is disgustingly dirty. Their table cloth smells like it’s been dunked in some horrible perfume ( to mask the smell of dirty cloth I guess?). Anyway, if you’re after good food, DO NOT go near this place. If you’re after plates after plates of (some) large rotten, frozen crab at RM26.80, then go ahead.

  17. ivy Said,

    this place SUCKS!!!
    the SOUP is tasteless!!!
they charge for the plate, bowls and chopsticks!!
    no beef no pork…
6pax is rm207.. and we only add one pot of tea
    WAT THE heck!!
