Rakuzen. I’ve been meaning to write about Rakuzen a long time ago, just did not come around to do it until now, that it …..

I’ve always loved this place, as long as my wallet can afford it. Nice ambiance, gorgeous decor, polite waiting staffs and of course, good food. But you don’t have to agree with me on this … I mean, this is purely based on the experiences of my last 5 visits to RakuZen at Hartamas Shopping Centre. It’s the sort of place you can come to if you have had a chilled out day playing games of foxy bingo (http://www.foxybingo.com/) or watching TV and if you have had a really stressful day in the office, you will always have a great time here. This is a restaurant that puts you in a good mood whatever type of day you have had.

So what is so special about this japanese restaurant, apart from the hundreds of others in town? For one, their decor is awesome. Yellow dim lights and soft background japanese music really creates the ambiance for a nice and romantic dinner with your partner or even to entertain your potential clients if your work requires you to do so.

Apart from the setups, their waiting staffs are generally polite and they interact with diners pretty well. Food ordering is simple yet efficient as the waiting staffs would recommend to suit your preferences.

RakuZen offers a wide variety of japanese food choices ranging from salads to sushi and set dinners. For starters, I tried the Chuka Iidako …. Baby Octopus Salad, a little something which I must learn to appreciate. I guess when it comes to food, I am not that adventureous. But give me some Tobiko and I am a happy man. Tobiko, as mentioned in my last article on Asahi Japanese Restaurant … is Flying Fish Roe (roe means egg).

For main courses, I ordered 2 and no, I did not finish all of them myself. Of course I have guests with me but they prefer to remain anonymous. But let’s just say, I do work out a little (salsa dancing) to remove what I put on throughout these reviews ! Sashimi to Yakizakana Zen is a combination dish of Sashimi (raw fish) and Yakizakana Zen (Grilled Fish), perfect for those who can’t decide between cooked or raw … you can have both!

And for those who like their food well-prepared and ‘dead’, go for Teppanyaki Zen which is popular dish set in RakuZen. Blocks of diced-cut beefs (a little thick for my liking) mixed with a good variety of vegetables and mushrooms, cooked to your liking.

On the whole, I love this place! No qualms for me to visit them again for the 7th time ….. and 8th and … and this is what others wrote about RakuZen.

  8. Noor Amiruddin Said,

Although the food is quite good at reasonable prices, the service is quite poor. I had made a reservation but had to wait for 15 minutes before was shown to a table. I can take the 15 minutes wait but fail to understand why can’t the captain explain that she has made a mistake or has overbooked and apologise instead of just keeping quiet and going about doing her business, hoping a table will be free.

My first and last visit, unfortunately; would not like to embarass my guests!

  9. Perry Said,

    I really liked your blog!

  10. georgeK Said,

Hi, was hesitant to go there but traffic was a real feamle canine at that hour so hopped into their Chulan Square establishment. Put the joint to the ‘fresh’ test. Ordered sushi, shahimi and unagi with a toss of tempura. The food passed with flying colours but we craved a service level which would be just as fresh. A few of us had to imitate windmills to get any attention. Buck up Raku-san.
