Asahi Japanese Restaurant

This post is on another Japanese restaurant. Yup, as if I haven’t done enough articles on Japanese restaurants. But this is something … really something.

Stacked in a far corner in Berjaya Times Square is Asahi Japanese Restaurant. If you know your way around Berjaya Times Square, Asahi is located right opposite Cold Storage supermarket … on the lower ground floor.

The setup in this restaurant is pretty chic … as seen above. Modern design with a touch of ancient japanese accessories. Waiting staffs are pretty friendly too, but of course what I like best is the menu is ‘user-friendly’ i.e. I don’t really have to read japanese to know how to order.

I started off with some decently prepared sushi, served on a cute “bridge”. Tobiko sushi or Flying Fish Roe is my new favourite sushi ! My previous favorite was Ebiko but trust me. Once you’ve tried Tobiko, you will never want to go back. Crunchiness. Nuff said. Then, there’s the Shake Maki or Raw Salmon sushi … nothing to shout about on this really.

Tobiko is the Japanese word for the flying fish roe used to create certain types of sushi. Tobiko is sometimes used as an ingredient in California rolls.

The eggs are small, ranging from 0.5mm – 0.8mm. For comparison, tobiko is larger than masago (capelin roe), but smaller than ikura (salmon roe). Plain tobiko has a red-orange color, a mild smoky/salty taste, and a crunchy texture. Sometimes tobiko is colored with wasabi (green), ginger (pale orange) or squid’s ink (black).

Anyway, I shall blabber no further. As usual … here are some ‘photographic experience’ to build your visual appetite.

Lastly, I should feel this is a good place to bring your date to …. just before catching a movie at the GSC cinema located conveniently a floor above Asahi…..

  1. jason Said,

If not because my friend wanna go down to the lower ground area of BTS, I wouldn’t know there’s a Japanese restaurant there. Really, I think the location is a disadvantage to them.
